After tax money

Most of the money you spend is "after taxes". This is the opposite of pre tax money where you can spend the money before the government takes their share. The Roth IRA is a retirement account that allows you to put in after tax money and eventually withdraw any increase as pre tax money.

Good financial management involves looking for ways to maximize your use of pre tax money while minimizing the after tax money you spend.
