In the US, medical expenses represent one of the major expenses for most families. Many people have some form of health insurance to pay for unexpected health related expenses. Often, health insurance, is paid for at least partially by an employer. In fact, many people work primarily for the health insurance and their actual salary is a secondary consideration.
One reason health care costs are so expensive in the US is because doctors must pay for insurance themselves. Doctors pay for malpractice insurance which will pay in case they are sued by a patient who feels he/she was treated incorrectly.
